Biography
Veeshal Patel, MD, MBA, is a general surgery resident at the University of Washington in Seattle, WA, who is currently spending two years as a Surgical Innovations Research Fellow at UCSF under the mentorship of Dr. Harrison. Dr. Patel completed his undergraduate studies and medical school at Boston University before moving to Seattle for his general surgery residency. His prior work has involved health policy and leadership both nationally and at the state level, quality improvement initiatives, and a number of consulting engagements at both public institutions and private firms, in addition to clinical research in Transplant Surgery.

Research Narrative
Dr. Patel’s current focus involves medical device development and surgical innovation under the mentorship of Dr. Michael Harrison at UCSF. He is working on the Magnetic Duodenal-Ileal Bypass (DIPASS) clinical trial in non-human primates, in addition to a number of ongoing projects developing technology for a magnetic bowel anastomosis device in addition to a magnetic implanted device for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea.
