Biography
Richard Fechter, B.S. is a Principal Developmental Engineer at UCSF Medical Center and UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital. Mr. Fechter began working at UCSF in 1982 in what later evolved into the Clinical Technologies Department, where he helps manage nearly 40,000 pieces of medical equipment. He is the primary investigator for medical device incidents and is a member of the FDA Medsun Medical Product Safety Network and the American College of Clinical Engineering (ACCE). His reports have resulted in numerous recalls and medical device corrections including critical life-support equipment.
Mr. Fechter brings a wealth of resources to the Surgical Innovations Program, including access to a wide variety of medical equipment, devices, test equipment and both electronic and mechanical fabrication and prototyping. He has been instrumental in developing numerous devices with the Pediatric Device Consortium and independently working with surgeons at UCSF. This has led to the issuance of seven US patents and numerous patents pending.
