Biography
Caressa Chen, MD is a general surgery resident at Loyola University Medical Center. She completed her undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering, with a concentration in Cell and Tissue Engineering, at the University of Rochester. As an undergraduate she was inducted into Tau Beta Pi, the Engineering Honors Society, and was selected as a Xerox Engineering Research Fellow.
In 2018, Dr. Chen received her MD with research honors from the Jacobs School of Medicine at the University at Buffalo. During medical school she was awarded an NIH T35 Research Training Grant as well as a research fellowship from the Sarnoff Cardiovascular Research Foundation. Through the latter, she dedicated a year working with iPSC-derived cardiomyocytes at Stanford University. Caressa became a Surgical Innovations Fellow in July 2020, joining the Shuvo Roy Lab to focus on bioreactor optimization in an implantable bioartificial kidney. Her research interests include tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, 3D cell culture, and surgical technology.
