    Biography

    Kelsey Haddad, MD, PhD is a general surgery resident at UCLA. She earned her MS and PhD in Energy, Environmental, and Chemical Engineering through the McDonnell International Scholars Academy at Washington University in St. Louis, where her doctoral work focused on nanomaterials and device design for chemical sensing applications.

    She received her MD from Washington University School of Medicine, where she was awarded the Louis and Dorothy Kovitz Senior Prize in Surgery and the American Medical Women’s Association Glasgow-Rubin Citation for Academic Achievement. During her training, she developed a strong interest in translational research at the intersection of engineering and surgery, with work spanning biomaterials, device development, and clinical outcomes.

    Dr. Haddad is currently a Surgical Innovations Fellow at UCSF, where she works with the Surgical Innovations program and the Roy Lab. Her work sits at the intersection of engineering and surgery, with a focus on translating clinical needs into scalable solutions for neonatal and pediatric populations. Her interests include medical device development, biomaterials for implantable systems, and innovation frameworks that accelerate the path from unmet need to clinical impact
