Phillip Kim, MD, MBA, is a general surgery resident at New York Presbyterian Columbia University Medical Center who is currently spending two years as Surgical Innovations Research Fellow under the mentorship of Dr. Hanmin Lee. Dr. Kim completed his undergraduate studies at M.I.T., and then completed a joint MD/MBA program at Harvard University. He then moved to New York City for his general surgery residency. His prior work has involved projects reducing retained foreign bodies in the operating room, manufacturing and selling machine washable ties for healthcare professionals, and siRNA nanoparticle research at MIT Langer Lab.

Dr. Kim's current research focus involves medical device and surgical innovation under the mentorship of Dr. Hanmin Lee at UCSF. He is currently working on the SmartDerm Project, a comprehensive decubitus ulcer prevention system that utilizes sensors placed on the patients' body and patients' data to objectively and accurately determine the risk of decubitus ulcer development.
